DPS Improvements
After looking at my feedback, the main response i got for what could be improved was that i should alter the image slightly so it was less stretched. Here i have altered the scale of it slightly and in my opinion it looks slightly better and it has a slightly sharper resolution.

Rationale for DPS
Rationale for DPS
I have an image in my head of what I want my double page spread to look
like, and in this rationale I will explain my ideas and why I want to do this.
1. Columns
I want to set my magazine article out into columns in order for it to
be easier and more convenient for the reader to read. This way it will look
more professional as almost all existing magazines have their articles set into
columns.
2. Title
I want my title to say ‘it will either make or break us’ in a bold,
Impact font. I want the word ‘break’ to actually be broken up, as it will link
in with the word and will associate with the theme of rock music – (stereotypically
violent, as rock musicians are known to break their instruments)
3. Main Image
I want my main image to be of my model (Peter) standing in a forest looking slightly sad and
reflective. I want to do this because the article is about him reflecting on
his life as a musician. For my secondary image I want to get a photo of him in
band practice, as I would like both a photo of him inside his music business,
and a photo of him outside.
4. Colour Scheme
I want to stick to the main colour scheme of my magazine, and have my
double page spread to be grey, red, black and white. These are all very dull
colours, however the red will add a splash of vibrancy to the page, and will
contrast well against the green colours of the forest in my main image.

Rationale for Contents page
Now that i have completed my music magazine contents page, i will now give reasoning for all my decisions that i have made. These reasons are listed below.
Masthead/Title:
Feature: The title of this page is called "Contents"
How this is relevant: This is relevant because it clearly shows the viewer what the contents of the page will contain, it is written across the entirity of the top third of the page, meaning it is the first thing that the reader will look at.
Feature: The font is wrote in white text on a black background, the text is kind of broken up
How this is relevant: Black and white suits my magazine well, as it is part of my colour scheme. It is also quite a dark colour pallette, regardless of the white, which fits in with the rock music theme.
Main Image:
Feature: My model - Peter Kinmond
How this is relevant: I chose my friend Peter as my model because he is a male who plays in a band and has a taste for rock/grunge styled music. Because of this, i knew he would have no problem in looking the part for my magazine. I used a male model as males are stereotypically more known for being 'rockstars' as opposed to females, and this will also attract members of the opposite sex.
Feature: My model's outfit - Nirvana band shirt with blue skinny jeans
How this is relevant: I chose the skinny jeans because they are stereotypically worn by almost all rockstars, and it just helps with the "Rock look". I altered the colours and contrast in order to make it look less vibrant, this way his outfit looks slightly more washed out, which causes him to look slightly more grunge. I chose the nirvana shirt because nirvana was a grunge band, and are very idolised within rock music, a lot of viewers will be able to recognise their logo on his shirt.
Feature: Model's actions - Playing guitair
How this is relevant: In order to portray my model as a guitar player for the band Infernal Blackout, it seemed suitable to give him a guitar as a prop. The photo was taken during peter's genuine band practice, which makes it more believable to the viewers.
Main contents feature:
Feature: "Infernal Blackout - Backstage interview with Peter"
How this is relevant: 'Infernal Blackout' is a band name found on an online band generator, and it gives off the impression that the band are really violent and aggressive, as 'Blackout' is a powerful word. The word 'backstage' is used in order to portray the fact that the interview will be really exclusive and behind the scenes of their rehearsals.
Essential Information:
Feature: Issue Number - #001
How this is relevant: Considering this is the first of my LOUD! magazines, it is obviously going to be issue number one. However, i have displayed it as #001 because the 3 digits implies to the target audience that the magazine is expected to still be existing hundreds of weeks later, as it will be successful enough to carry on going. This gives my audience faith in the magazine and will ensure them that it will be available in years to come.
Feature: Directors note
How this is relevant: this is relevant because when looking at my inspiration (Kerrang) each issue has a directors note at the bottom, which is a good way of connecting to the audience. seeing as how this is Loud!s first issue, i figured it would be worth doing as an introduction to the readers.
Contents features:
Feature: titles: "blink 182 - tom's new book, man overboard - Brand new merchandise, Bring me the horizon, launch their own bbq sauce, kaiser cheifs - join us for exclusive chat, foo fighters - dave discusses rock and roll lifestyle, you me at six - josh and max discuss funny times, biffy clyro - exclusive info, enter shikari - backstage exclusives, infernal blackout poster special, slipknot, adtr - album review, avenged sevenfold - review, paramore tour dates, download tour lineup, loud lineup, win tickets to loud tour"
How it relates to my target audience: When doing my survey, i asked everyone what their favourite bands are, the restults were: Biffy Clyro, Blink-182, Paramore, Nirvana, Enter Shikari, All Time Low, Man Overboard, Gnarwolves, A Day to Remember, Bring me the Horizon, Avenged Sevenfold, Bury Tomorrow, Kaiser Cheifs, Last breath and buried in Verona.

Rationale for Front Cover
Now that i have completed my music magazine, i will now give reasoning for all my decisions that i have made. These reasons are listed below.
Masthead:
Feature: The title of my magazine is called "LOUD!", it is wrote in capital letters with an exclamation point after the word 'loud'.
How it appeals to my target audience: This appeals to my target audience because the magazine is rock-based, therefore it will contain a lot of bands who are heavy and loud, as this is the type of music that my target audience listens to. A simple way of showing this in one word to simply just name it "Loud". The exclamation point emphasises the volume, along with the upper cased lettering, as when we read upper cased letters, our brain usually sub consciously automatically reads it as if the words were being shouted, as opposed to spoken.
Feature: The font is written in white, blue and black
How is appeals to my target audience: i wanted my magazine to be gender neutral, therefore my magazine colour scheme is red, blue and white. As red is aimed more towards the females and blue is more towards the males. Because of this, i have made the mast head blue, and the other features on my magazine will be red.
Main Image:
Feature: My model - Peter Kinmond
How it appeals to my target audience: I chose my friend Peter as my model because he is a male who plays in a band and has a taste for rock/grunge styled music. Because of this, i knew he would have no problem in looking the part for my magazine. I used a male model as males are stereotypically more known for being 'rockstars' as opposed to females, and this will also attract members of the opposite sex.
Feature: My model's outfit - Red shirt with blue denim jacket, black skinny jeans and converse.
How is appeals to my target audience: Red and blue is my initial colour scheme, therefore his red flannel shirt and blue denim jacket contributed to it nicely. I chose the black skinny jeans because they are stereotypically worn by almost all rockstars, and it just helps with the "Rock look". I altered the colours and contrast in order to make it look less vibrant, this way his outfit looks slightly more washed out, which causes him to look slightly more grunge.
Feature: Model's facial expression - Snarling with direct mode of address
How it appeals to my target audience: The snarling pose is implying that he is dangerous and does not want to be messed with, which is suitable because it ties in with the theme of recklessness and aggression usually associated with rock musicians. He direct mode of address allows him to look directly towards the camera, which entices the viewer and makes it feel like he is personally looking at them.
Secondary Image:
Feature: Model's costume - Nirvana jumper, blue skinny jeans, black covers
How it appeals to my target audience: It appeals to my target audience because when looking at the survey, a lot of my audience buy band merch off the internet and they wear it on a dayto day basis. By getting peter to wear band merchandise, it allows the viewer to relate to him, and it adds to the idea that he fits into the category of "Rock". The jeans and converse are also popular with my target audience, as found out due to surveys, therefore it is appropriate that he wears them.
Feature: Locations - The knack, Barnes Park
How it appeals to my target audience: The Knack is the place where Peter's band actually practice on a weekly basis, therefore i thought it would be appropriate to gather some photographs of him acting natural in his own band. This also meant it didn't take any extra time out of his schedule, and it gives the viewer a real feel for what it's like backstage and at band practices. Barnes park was my initial idea when i did location scouting, therefore i took a shot there in order to stick to my original plan.
Main Sell-line:
Feature: Title(1) - "Infernal Blackout:"
How it appeals to my target audience: 'Infernal Blackout' is a band name found on an online band generator, and it gives off the impression that the band are really violent and aggressive, as 'Blackout' is a powerful word. This is useful when referring to my target audience because it implies that the band will be part of the Rock genre, which is what my music magazine is based on.
Feature: Title(2) - "Peter talks gigs, games and girls"
How it appeals to my target audience: Going to gigs and playing video games are two of the most popular hobbies which i came across when doing my target audience research, therefore my audience will be interested in an interview/discussion about both topics. By adding 'and girls', it shows the female audience that he is available and is willing to talk about them. This has been done with the intention of attracting the female audience into reading more about the magazine. I used the word "Peter" without any last name or anything to imply that he is very well known and recognised, therefore does not need a surname to be recognised.
Puff:
Feature: "Win! tickets to LOUD! tour 2014"
How it appeals to the target audience: When doing my research and target audience surveys, i found that most of my target audience have been to over 6 festivals in their lifetime, therefore festivals are a big part of my audience's lives. By enticing them with a chance to win free tickets to the Loud! tour; i am not only advertising the magazine's festival, but i am also encouraging them to participate. I have also used an exclaimation mark after the word "Win" to link in with the mast head of my magazine.
Feature: Colours used - red, blue, white and black.
How it appeals to my target audience: i wanted my magazine to be gender neutral, therefore my magazine colour scheme is red, blue and white. As red is aimed more towards the females and blue is more towards the males. White and black are both gender neutral colours, as neither of them are technically classed as official colours. Because of this, i have made the "WIN!" text blue, the back ground black with white text overlayed, and the border of the puff in red. This way, i have used all the colours in my colour scheme, without letting any clash.
Essential Information:
Feature: Price - £2.10
How it relates to my target audience: My magazine is sold weekly, and therefore i did some research into the pricing of existing popular weekly rock magazines. The most popular of these magazines was Kerrang! priced at £2.20 per issue. The content of my magazine is fairly similar to Kerrang!'s magazine therefore i needed to compete against it. Therefore i have made my price £2.10: 10p cheaper than Kerrang!, making it better for value.
Feature: Issue Number - #001
How it relates to my target audience: Considering this is the first of my LOUD! magazines, it is obviously going to be issue number one. However, i have displayed it as #001 because the 3 digits implies to the target audience that the magazine is expected to still be existing hundreds of weeks later, as it will be successful enough to carry on going. This gives my audience faith in the magazine and will ensure them that it will be available in years to come.
Coverlines:
Feature: titles: "Enter Shikari back-stage exclusives: interviews and photos inside!, Paramore: Hayley tells us about the newly added tour dates, Bury Tomorrow announced for 2014 Download and Loud tour, A day to remember's brand new album - common courtesy review inside!"
Seeing as how Enter shikari, Paramore, Bury Tomorrow and A Day to Remember all fall under these results, i decided to make the coverlines about them, as these 4 bands were among the most popular of all the results, which shows that the audience are interested in them and want to read more about them.
Feature: Arrow shaped boxes
How it relates to my target audience: The arrows are pointed to the right, coming into the page from the edge. This sub-concsiously implies to the reader/target audience that the information is being brought directly into the magazine, and it makes it just slightly more appealing than plain rectangular boxes.
Banners:
Feature: Top banner: "Exclusive interview with Peter Kinmond inside"
How it appeals to target audience: The word 'Exclusive' shows the reader that the information included within the magazine is fresh and has never been read before, which makes it exciting for them to read. I used Peter's name without mentioning what band he's from to imply that he is a successful musician and does not need too much explanation on who he is; people just instantly recognise him.
Feature: Lower Banner - "+ Kaiser Cheifs, Man Overboard, Bring me the Horizon, Biffy Clyro, Blink 182, You Me At Six, Avenged Sevenfold, Slipknot, Foo Fighters"
How it appeals to target audience: When doing my survey, i asked everyone what their favourite bands are, the restults were: Biffy Clyro, Blink-182, Paramore, Nirvana, Enter Shikari, All Time Low, Man Overboard, Gnarwolves, A Day to Remember, Bring me the Horizon, Avenged Sevenfold, Bury Tomorrow, Kaiser Cheifs, Last breath and buried in Verona. As Kaiser Cheifs, Man Overboard, Bring Me, Biffy, Blink and Avenged Sevenfold all fall under this list, i decided to use them, as i know the readers are interested in reading about them. Despite these bands, i have also added You Me at Six and Foo Fighters to the banner, both of which are not included on the list, this is because both these bands fall under the genre of my magazine, therefore i know that my viewers may also be interested in them.
As red is aimed more towards the females and blue is more towards the males. Because of this, i have made the mast head blue, and the other features on my magazine will be red.

This is the feedback which my peers gave me after watching my Pitch presentation. From here i can see what my strengths and weaknesses are when thinking about my final product. I can see clearly that my strengths are as followed: good research into target audience, good costume ideas and well thought out plans for final product. My main weakness was the fact i forgot to mention the mast head. The mast head of my magazine will be written with a font from a website called "Cool Text" and it will be called "LOUD!''; wrote in white and blue colours.

Colour and Font Samples
Colour Scheme
These are the colours which i have chosen that will feature in my music magazine. I have chosen red and blue colours, along with white and black, because i feel this colour scheme will be very gender neutral, which is what i want my magazine to portray to the readers. I have also included the numbers for each of the colours, so i can easily reference them and use them if i wanted to get the exact same colour when i am actually creating my blog.
Fonts
For the LOUD! logo, i used an online font generator called "Cool Text" and i chose the font "Frosty." I used a shade of blue similar to my colour scheme which is relevant because it shows that i have properly considered colour. I have also selected some fonts from my computer which will potentially be featured on my music magazine. They are all relatively simple, as i do not want it to be too over the top or "Fancy".

Pitch
This is a Prezi presentation i have made for the pitch of my magazine. Thanks to all the research i have gathered over the weeks and all the information i have collected and analysed, i can now sum up my final ideas and i can begin to properly plan my final product. This presentation shows all my ideas in a quick, brief, yet very effective way, as it shows you my exact plans and ideas.
Additional information which i did not include on this presentation is:
Name of magazine: LOUD!
Price: £2.10
Issue number: #001
Frequency: weekly
Photoshoot Planning
What emotional impact do you want your photography do have upon the reader?
I want the reader to feel slightly alarmed when they see the photo, as i intend to use a photo of my model snarling at the viewer. This will make the viewer potentially feel intimidated, howeber i would also like them to see the jovial side of it as well, so they know that the band member my model is posing as is not completely violent and anti-social.
What personnel do you need? Who are you going to photograph?
I am using one of my good friends, Peter, to model for my magazine. I have chosen him because i am comfortable around him and he is comfortable with me, therefore taking the photos will not be difficult to do, as we will be able to co-operate and help each other out without feeling uncomfortable around each other.
What props will you need?
I may use a fake cigarette or a guitar to set the scene of my music genre, however i am still undecided about this. I have both of the props at the ready in case i do decide to use these, therefore i may try them out and see whether they look effective or not. I will make my judgement from there.
How are you going to emphasise colour?
I will use filters on photoshop when creating my magazine to ensure that it is not too bright or vibrant; i do not want the front of my magazine to look too happy or lively, as i want it to be dark and mysterious like the inspiration i have from the research into existing magazines.
Have you briefed your personnel/models?
Yes i have.
Yes i have.
What lighting will you need?
I will be taking various photos, some outside and one main one in a studio. Natural lighting will be used for some of them (the more casual ones) which will be included within the inside of my magazine, and i will use three-point lighting for the main image on the front cover. This will minimize the shadows.
Where will you shoot? Will you need a backdrop?
For one of my photos, the background will just be completely white, which will make it easier for me to add my own background (i.e. a brick wall or a black/dark back drop). For the more casual outdoor photos, i will use the scenery of Barnes Park as the background, as it is very attractive to look at.

Make-up? Costume?
My model will have two main outfits (one for the cover and one for the inside pages); a black leather jacket with dark skinny jeans and converse, and for the other one, a red flannel shirt, a denim jacket and blue skinny jeans. My model will not require makeup for this photoshoot.
